Photoshop Documents, Viewing Modes and Files

Let's start a blank Photoshop document by going to File in the text-menu and choosing New. The resulting dialog window will look something like this ......

The first item is a field where we can establish a Name for this file. Let's type in the name that we'd like to have for this file, for instance, "website". If we skip this feild, the document will be named by Photoshop as "Untitled". This is fine, the file can be named later when it's saved.
-------------

Next, is a drop-down menu labeled Preset that allows us to choose from some previously defined document types. For now, let's choose "Web". When we do this, many of the options that follow are changed for us. We will explore this interface in more detail in later sections of this series.
And also do select your screen size(eg.1270x780)

Let's accept these default values by choosing the OK button positioned in the top right of this dialog window.
When we do that, a new window will open in our workspace.

Controlling the Viewing Mode with keyboard shortcuts

If our interface doesn't look like the image above, we may be in the wrong viewing mode. Photoshop gives us a convenient way of moving between viewing modes while we work on images.

A. We can toggle the interface palettes and context-menu on and off by tapping the TAB key on our keyboard.

B. We can toggle between window states by tapping the F key on our keyboard.

Let's take a moment to experiment with these keyboard shortcuts and observe the different views.

Well this is how you finally save your photoshop file.
And there is one more thing you can save your Photoshop file using JPEG or gif etc.... click on the drop down menu(Format) and after the selecting it save it... and enjoy.

The Application Interface

Ok.......Let's launch Adobe Photoshop. This can be accomplished in several different ways including a desktop icon or quicklaunch bar. If we're using a Windows operating system, it can be launched from the "Start" menu (e.g. Start/All Programs/Adobe/Photoshop CS3).

When Photoshop is opened, the interface will look something like this.

Let's take a moment to observe the different components that make up this interface.

Across the top of the program, below the title bar is the text-menu. The text-menu has the words, "File", "Edit", "Image", "Layer", "Select"...etc. This type of menu, in this location, is probably familiar to us as it is common to the majority of programs on our computer
<===- Immediately below the text-menu, is the context-menu. The items in this menu will change to reflect the options associated with the tool being used.

Along the left side of the interface, we find the Tools palette . If this is not present, choose Window from the text-menu and then Tools. This toolbox is where we will go when we want to select and create.
<==- We will study the tools in more detail in the next tutorial.

On the right side of our interface, we have an area for Palettes . Palettes are a series of smaller windows. Each palette, or window, serves a specific function. In general, the palette area is where we go when we want to manipulate.
-===>
Individual palettes will be examined in detail over the entire tutorial series.

Who is the major brain behind this graphic editing tool?

In 1987,Thomas Knoll, a PhD student at the University of Michigan , began writing a program on his Macintosh Plus to display grayscal images on a monochrome display. This program, called Display, caught the attention of his brother John Knoll, an Industrial Light & Magic employee, who recommended Thomas turn it into a full-fledged image editing program. Thomas took a six month break from his studies in 1988 to collaborate with his brother on the program, which had been renamed Image Pro. Later that year, Thomas renamed his program Photoshop and worked out a short-term deal with scanner manufacturer Barneyscan to distribute copies of the program with a slide scanner; a "total of about 200 copies of Photoshop were shipped" this way.

During this time, John traveled to Silicon Valley and gave a demonstration of the program to engineers at Apple and Russell Brown, art director at Adobe. Both showings were successful, and Adobe decided to purchase the license to distribute in September 1988. While John worked on plug-ins in California, Thomas remained in Ann Arbor writing program code. Photoshop 1.0 was released in 1990 for Macintosh exclusively.

What is Photoshop?

Adobe Photoshop, or simply Photoshop, is a graphics editing program developed and published by Adobe Systems. It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation software, and is the flagship product of Adobe Systems. It has been described as "an industry standard for graphics professionals" and was one of the early "Killer applications" on the Macintosh, later also for MS Windows.

Adobe's 2003 "Creative Suite" rebranding led to Adobe Photoshop 8's renaming to Adobe Photoshop CS (Photoshop 7 was the final version which ran on the Windows 98 platform). Thus, Adobe Photoshop CS4 is the 11th major release of Adobe Photoshop. The CS rebranding also resulted in Adobe offering numerous software packages containing multiple Adobe programs for a reduced price. Adobe Photoshop is included in most of Adobe's Creative Suite offerings.

The GREAT photoshop

Well that was the first thing which ran into my mind when I first saw this user friendly tool which help me edit my photos, cause a lot of movies, pictures and also video strips(eg. fake ghost video) use editing tools like photoshop and yes there are so many other tools which edit photos and videos eg.Gimp... but I prefer photoshop so where was I hmmm and yea ...... to make their videos or pictures look good, so I used to wonder how did they do that.
Then a friend of mine told me they use photoshop, I was like wow even I need to try this and so I googled it and I started reading about photoshop and it was amazing.
And ho yea fairness cream ads use photoshop you might know the famous "Fair and lovely" 5 or 10 step fairness cream and they show you a woman who is dark(actually they apply mud on her face) and then she become fair(make up) after applying this cream for like I am guessing 4 weeks and then she comes back to the studio and she gets selected well hmmmmmm........
Actually to be more precise I hate fairness cream ads its just that they are "racial"that's all.

Any way after installing this Graphic editing tool the usual screen opened and I started staring at it for like 5 minutes and I clicked here and there nothing worked out rite except for changing the color of a picture that any Tom,Dick and Harry can do it but i was angry cause I really wanted to use this tool so I googled for some tutorials about photoshop(well I am using photoshop cs3) and I followed the tutorial tried and out come was very bad, well it happens to new users cause when you are a beginner you will make a lot of mistakes.
Since I am an intermediate in this, I can do so many things without using photoshop tutorials.
Now I am kind a happy. I want to be a pro at this because in the future i can do it as a side business to earn some more :D.
I use this Graphic editing tool only when I am free just to keep my mind working always.
If u have a facebook account you can check it out www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/album.php?aid=2025973&id=1026681011.

And the best way to learn faster is by watching it on youtube they will show it to you step by step and its fun.
Photoshop is a lot fun trust me .
Later on I will be showing you step by step procedures how to use photoshop and how to edit photos and also few animation stuff.
For people who must be wondering how much this Graphic tool costs....well it cost a lot and I mean a LOT , you get this in a box which contains a DVD , some guidelines to help you how to install , CD key etc......And if you want to install you will require Mac OS or Windows xp atleast .
To be honest this is not any ordinary box like how you get your anti-virus or PS3 or Xbox not even your bluray player can come close to this software's rate.
At present I am using Adobe photoshop cs3 which can cost you anywhere between $ 650 to 700 well it depends on the discounts you get.
Convert it to Indian rupee Rs.29,250 to 31,500.
There are people who sell it for 2nd hand on ebay and you can bid for a good price and get it.

Amazon is giving at a discount check it out.
